HALLOWEEN IS HERE ARE YOU READY?

Ok so it’s October and one of my favorite holidays is just around the corner. Halloween is a holiday that most kids in America love to celebrate. All the children start looking for the scariest most gruesome costumes, but why not dress up of something more spiritual and less scary. My 8 year old nephew who by the way goes to catholic school decided to dress up as Saint Patrick. I decided to help him out  by making a MITRE hat; some people call it a bishop hat. In order to construct the hat I needed to get all the required material. I went to the store and picked up 1 green piece of construction paper. Also I picked up some gold color paper, glue, scissors, and ruler. Pencil, scotch tape and red and blue plastic gems. The procedure is very easy; I began by measuring my nephews head. His head is about 21 inches in circumference. With the measurements then I grab the green color construction paper, get my ruler and measure 21 inches from left to right on the top and the bottom of the paper. Carefully cut with the scissors, once we have the paper cut we need to fold the construction paper in half. When we open it we will have 2 equal sides, one side will be the front of the hat and the other will be the back. We then get are ruler and measure 17 inches in length from bottom to top and we make a pencil mark. With are French curve ruler we will measure from the edge of the construction paper to the tip of the top of the paper. We do the say thing to the other side of the paper. When you measure from the edge of the construction,  to the top of the paper mark the shape of the hat will take in  affect do to the French curve ruler. We do the same thing for both sides, make sure that when you cut you try to have precision and stay as close to the line as possible. When we finish cutting both sides then we are ready to get are gold color paper and start to measure 1 ½ inch wide strips, about 5 of them and also 4 to 5 strips ½ inch wide. These gold color strips will be pasted at the edges of the hat, bottom and in the middle of the hat. It will represent gold around the hat. We put glue and paste it all around the edges, bottom and in the middle of the hat. After the glue has settled I get a thumb tack and gently start to puncture a small hole on the bottom and on the middle of the hat were I have glued the gold 1 ½ inch strips. After I have made my holes I insert the red color gems accordingly, the gems are just to make the hat look expensive and real. I then get my blue color gems and paste it with glue between the red color gems. I then grab my ruler place it across my hat any gently start to past crosses on each side of the hat. The crosses are about ½ inch in width; the ruler helps me paste the cross evenly. We let it all dry for a few minutes, once it is nicely dried, I put scotch tape on one edge of the hat. Very gently fold the hat and make sure that the edges tape evenly. After we unite the two half are project is done.
